How to Help Young Wildlife

binoculars
Observe, don’t disturb
  • If the animal isn’t in immediate danger, the best thing you can do is observe it from a distance
no pets
Keep pets away
  • Cats and dogs, even the friendly ones, can unintentionally harm young wildlife
no touch
Avoid feeding or handling
  • Feeding wild animals, especially young ones, can make them dependent on humans and increase their chances of not surviving on their own. A shallow dish of water is fine
logs
Create wild spaces
  • Leave some undergrowth or logs for hiding spots, and avoid using chemicals, creating a safe space for young animals to grow & thrive, whilst they find their feet
box
If you find a sick or injured animal
  • Using gloves or a thick towel, place the animal into a secure box with air holes
  • Do not give any food or water; instead, contact local animal control and a wildlife rescue.

Seek assistance for large animals
  • If it is a large animal like a fox, badger, deer, or large bird of prey, please contact local animal control and a wildlife rescue
