Road Construction Begins Monday, April 17, 2023

Beginning Monday, April 17th, the City of Brenham Street Department will be reconstructing Ross St., Spencer St., and Kurtz St. Reconstruction will be done in phases and last approximately four weeks. Work hours will be 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM and sections of roadway will have limited access to vehicular traffic throughout the work zones. City staff will work with residents to gain access to homes.

This reconstruction process will involve tilling up the existing roadway, grading the sub-base, and adding bulk cement to stabilize the sub-base in areas that are not concreted or stabilized already. After the cement is applied, a 2-inch asphalt layer will be added to the new roadbed which will improve the surface of the street for many years. As with any construction project, there will be times, especially as cement is added to the roadway when dusty conditions will be noticed. Please be patient with our crews and work zones.

On the day bulk cement is applied to the roadway, the City asks that you not drive on the roadway. If you drive on the cement before it has been thoroughly mixed into the subgrade, it will get on your vehicle and possibly cause damage if not rinsed off in a timely manner. If you see dust on any items, simply rinse them off as soon as possible. The day of the asphalt lay, there will be limited access to vehicular travel. If you are unsure of the road condition, please ask one of the workers before you drive on the road.

Also, please park all cars in driveways or off the roadways between the hours of 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM. If you have a sprinkler system in your yard, please turn it off during this time.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call Brian Smith, Street Department Superintendent, at 979-337-7222.
