As the storm clears, please be cautious as you get out and about. There will be downed trees and power lines. Here are some tips for staying safe around power lines:

  • Distance - Keep at least 10 feet away from overhead power lines, and 25 feet away from high voltage lines. If a power line is downed, stay at least 35 feet away.
  • Avoid contact - Don't touch power lines with your bare hands or anything conductive, like ladders, poles, or trees. If you see someone touching a power line, don't touch them.
  • Be aware - Look for hazards, like fencing near power lines. Be especially careful around trees or when moving equipment

If the forecast is correct, Brenham could see sustained winds of 30+ MPH, with gusts up to 60 MPH. Take this time to do a quick inventory of items outside your home and secure them or bring them indoors - trash bins, flower pots, patio chairs, etc.

  • Avoid powerlines and tall trees
  • Secure loose objects
  • Go indoors and stay away from windows
