City of Brenham to Name David Gott as Administrative Head of Agency  for the Brenham Police Department

The City of Brenham has announced the designation of David A. Gott as Administrative Head of Agency for the Brenham Police Department, beginning Tuesday, April 8, 2025. Gott comes with a 44-year career in law enforcement—including more than four decades in command and supervisory roles—the new Interim Chief brings a wealth of experience, proven leadership, and a strong commitment to public service. His formal appointment and swearing in as Interim Police Chief will be made at a later date.

Most recently, Gott served as Chief of Police for the Hedwig Village Police Department in Spring, Texas, from January 2013 until his retirement in September 2024. Before that, he spent over 32 years with the Houston Police Department, achieving the rank of Captain before his departure in early 2013.

His professional background includes extensive expertise in police management, strategic planning, and personnel development. He is widely recognized for his ethical leadership, calm demeanor under pressure, and exceptional communication skills—qualities that will be invaluable as he assumes this interim leadership role.

Gott holds a bachelor’s degree from Mountain State University, and he is certified as a Master Peace Officer and a Master Hostage Negotiator. “We are confident that his leadership will provide stability and guidance during this transition period,” said City Manager Carolyn Miller, “His experience and expertise align with the values and mission of the Brenham Police Department.”
