City of Brenham Police Department Car Chase Ends in Capture and Arrest

At approximately 1:10 p.m., Brenham P.D. Officers responded to a residence in the 400 block of E. Alamo Street about a burglary of a vehicle. Witnesses on the scene reported seeing a black male enter a vehicle through an unlocked door. The suspect rummaged through the vehicle and then left in a white 4-door passenger vehicle described as having a missing front bumper. The reporting officer gave a BOLO (“Be on the Look Out”) for the suspect vehicle last seen traveling around Creamery Street.

A short time later (around 2:00 p.m.), responding units located the suspect vehicle in the 900 block of Mangrum Street. Officers attempted a traffic stop; however, the suspect vehicle attempted to flee from officers traveling Eastbound on Old Chappell Hill Road and then drove into an open pasture. The pursuing officer crashed his unit but was able to continue and follow the path of the suspect vehicle through the pasture on foot.

The suspect vehicle, a 2018 Hyundai Sonata, was found heavily damaged and unattended in the pasture. The vehicle was recently reported stolen by the owner. The suspect was located walking through the pasture approximately 100 yards off Shepard Lane. The suspect then fled on foot from officers running south towards Mustang Road. Several units responded to the area of Krause Elementary due to the possibility the suspect was running toward the area of the school.

At 3:30 p.m., the suspect was apprehended near the property line of Krause Elementary School. No one was injured and the suspect, Braelyn Bimage (17 of Brenham), is currently incarcerated in the Washington County Jail charged with Evading Arrest Detention, Evading Arrest Detention in a Vehicle, and an outstanding warrant for Theft of Property >=2,500<$30,000 (State Jail Felony).
