Nextlink to Fiber Installations Status Update 6-16-2025

Update 6/16/2025 - Nextlink has completed 75% to 80% of Phase I and is working on Blue Bell Road. Blue Bell Road is the last section needed to complete Phase 1, and it will begin Phase 2 soon.

Staff has been monitoring GAC’s progress and work, contacting customers as needed. Some of the potholing locations and handholes had significant washouts and sinkage after recent heavy rains, which GAC has since fixed to our approval. We will continue monitoring all aspects of Nextlink/GAC’s fiber installations to ensure they return the property, utilities, and privately owned materials/equipment as close to their original state as possible. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Update 05/09/2025 - Nextlink officially began Phase 1 of installation on Thursday, May 15, 2025, starting on Niebuhr Street. The yellow-shaded area on the map represents the Phase 1 installation zone.

Published 02/24/2025 - Nextlink has entered into an agreement with the City of Brenham to install conduit and fiber within public right of way. The project, which will begin March 10, 2025, will take place within city and state rights of way, is part of a larger initiative to install high-speed fiber optic infrastructure throughout the city. The fiber installation will be completed in phases over the next 1-1/2 to 3 years.

Prior to the start of construction, Nextlink will locate all existing utilities in the area using flags and paint to ensure safe and accurate work zones. Construction crews will begin boring operations within the designated public rights of way, working alongside private properties. The boring will occur 2 feet from the property line within the city or state right of way, running parallel to the street.

Residents who have any concerns or wish to report problems related to the project are encouraged to contact the City of Brenham at 979-337-7400.
