Sidewalk Work | Restricted Crossing U-Turns

US 290 Lane Closures

April 19, 2024

Beginning Monday, January 22nd, 2024, the outside lanes on US 290 will be closed in the vicinity of FM 577. Traffic will be shifted to the inside lanes while the contractor continues to perform the necessary bridge repairs on the outside lanes.

Drivers should exercise caution, be patient, and watch for traffic control messages in the area.

This project is awarded to Mainlane Industries for $2.2 million.  This work is expected to be completed by the Summer 2024.


Sidewalk Work along Business 36

January 5, 2024

WASHINGTON COUNTY– Construction consisting of adding and upgrading sidewalks along Business 36, from FM 577 to Vulcan Street, will begin on Monday, January 8, 2024. 

TxDOT encourages drivers to keep safety at the forefront of their mind by paying attention to traffic control, work zone messaging and the workers along the roadway. Drivers should plan for extra travel time through this area during construction.

This $1.55 million sidewalk project is contracted to Ti-Zack Concrete, Inc and is expected to be complete by the end of 2024.

Work Begins on Restricted Crossing U-Turns

January 5, 2024

WASHINGTON COUNTY– Beginning Monday, January 8, 2024, TxDOT’s Contractor will begin work on the construction of restricted crossing U-Turn intersections at two locations outside of Brenham. Work will start at SH 36 between Anderson Lane and Pleasant Hill School Road. The construction at this location is expected to be complete in fall of 2024.

The second location of work is at the US 290 / FM 1155 Intersection in Chappell Hill.  The construction at this location is expected between fall of 2024 through summer of 2025.

This notice advises the public that work at these two locations will require lane closures and traffic shifts. TxDOT encourages drivers to plan for extra travel time through this area or to seek alternate routes.

This $6.5 million construction project is contracted to Knife River Corporation.  TxDOT and their contractor thank everyone for their patience during this work.
